Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy), an important artist and playwright as well as art critic and theoretician, who co-founded the 'Formists' group active between 1918 and 1922, is the subject of much of the exhibition. The collection of his paintings represents almost every period of the artist's work: from his early works - Portrait of Dr Ignacy Wasserberg - to portraits, among which the most important is an oil portrait of Eugenia Dunin-Borkowska and several of his pastel ones, painted as part of the Portrait Company. One of the few paintings by Leon Chwistek - the theoretician of the 'Formists', mathematician and logician - is the Portrait of Iza Kozłowska, subordinated to zonism, i.e. the division of a painting into zones.
