The collection of Japanese ceramics occupies an equally important place in the exhibition as the collection of Chinese ceramics. Japanese porcelain was highly sought after by European collectors especially in the 18th century. The Torun collection contains valuable vessels of Chinese and Japanese origin, bearing the inventory numbers of the famous Dresden collection of King August II the Strong (in Polish: August II Mocny). This collection was considered one of the largest and most important porcelain collections in Europe. Among the Japanese exhibits, plates with imari type decoration predominate. They are painted under-glaze with cobalt, giving a blue color, and in-glaze with iron red and gold. Flowers in a vase standing on the veranda boards is thethe main motif that appears on these dishes.
