Monument to Henryk Sienkiewicz in Jan Kochanowski Park, designed by Konstanty Laszczka

The postcard depicts the unveiling of a monument to Henryk Sienkiewicz in Bydgoszcz on 31 July 1927. The monument was created by the excellent sculptor Konstanty Laszczka. The Nobel Prize winner's monument was unveiled in the presence of the President of the Republic of Poland, Ignacy Mościcki, on the edge of Jan Kochanowski Park. It was destroyed by the Germans in September 1939. The new monument was located on the site of the original one and inaugurated in 1968. Its author was the sculptor Prof. Stanisław Horno-Popławski from Gdańsk.
