The engine room was located in this part of the building. It housed the motors that powered the nitroglycerine production equipment. In the event of a short circuit in the motors, the risk of an explosion was virtually minimal. The engine room was separated from the equipment (nitrator, separator and column scrubbers) by a reinforced concrete wall.
