The Gallery of Polish Painting and Sculpture from the late 18th to the early 21st century begins in a room where paintings of the Age of Enlightenment are presented. This room is part of the former chancellery of the Town Hall. Particularly noteworthy among the works of art are the portraits of Marcello Bacciarelli - the founder of the first artistic school, the so-called Paintings Room, and of Josef Grassi - who stayed in Poland from 1791 to 1795, as well as of Franciszek Smuglewicz - the founder of the first Chair of Drawing and Painting in Poland at Vilnius University in 1797.
