Founded in 1824, the urn commemorates the death of Mayor Jan Gotfryd Rösner, who, following the tragic incidents of the Toruń tumult in 1724, was accused of indulging in attacks on the Jesuit college and neglecting his duties, for which he was sentenced to death by beheading by sentence of the Assessor's Court in Warsaw. Despite many interventions, including those of foreign powers with King Augustus II the Strong, the sentence was carried out in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall in Toruń on 7 December 1724.
