Another interesting monument is certainly the sati stone made in North India between the 11th and 13th centuries. Sati signifies a faithful wife who joins her husband after his death, but it also signifies the very ritual of burning a wife on her husband's funeral pyre. Women believed in redeeming the most grievous sins and reuniting with their husbands. The number of figures on the stele corresponds to the number of wives who underwent sati. The sun and moon in the finial symbolize the eternal honor and memory of sati. The five lemons are for protection from evil and for purification.
