The numismatic collection of the Leon Wyczółkowski District Museum in Bydgoszcz has been gathered since the 19th century. It numbers over 40,000 objects and is one of the largest in Poland. It is housed in a museum building dedicated to it - the European Money Centre. In the 16th and 17th centuries, a complex of buildings of the Crown Mint existed on the Mill Island in Bydgoszcz, and the minting house, i.e. the place where coins were minted, was located exactly on the site of the European Money Centre. It was here that coins were minted that reached the furthest corners of Europe. It was here that the largest and most beautiful gold coins of 17th-century Europe - the studukats - were minted in 1621. The museum cultivates the traditions of the mint.
