The exhibition concerns the early medieval period. The oldest artefacts date from the turn of the 7th and 8th centuries and the youngest from the 13th century. They provide a glimpse into various aspects of the daily life of the former castle inhabitants. The Bydgoszcz castle was erected in the 1130s. It performed defensive and administrative functions until the early 14th century. It was built at the junction of today's Przy Zamczysku, Grodzka, Bernardyńska and Plac Kościeleckich streets. The beginning of the exhibition deals with issues related to obtaining food. In the depth of the room, a fragment of a rampart and trade-related artefacts are reconstructed. Further on there are ornaments, jewellery and objects of daily use. In the centre of the room, objects for entertainment are displayed, such as dice, animal figurines and whistles. An important part of the exhibition is made up of militaria: swords, spearheads, axes and knives.
