Jozef Czapski, whose painting entitled 'Exhibition - Sketch of a painting' was created in oil on canvas in 1977, remained faithful to the colouristic traditions of the pre-war Kapist group. The co-founder of the Polish émigré monthly Kultura, who had lived in Paris since 1946, found the subject matter of his works in everyday situations he observed. The artistic value of his paintings is influenced by intriguing, expressive juxtapositions of pure colours and surprising, dynamic framing of scenes.
